Due to a number of unforeseen circumstances we have decided to postpone this year’s conference until a later date.
The number of registrants for the Ottawa conference has been uncharacteristically low, and based on some very solid feedback from some of our members it appears the fall is just too busy for many people. We have suspected for some years that this was becoming an issue and it is apparent that our members’ attempt to balance workloads has clearly affected the conference attendance this year. We also felt that without sufficient member and industry representation, the value of the conference would be diminished in terms of the networking opportunities, the ability for interaction between speakers and attendees, as well as the overall energy of the event.
In addition, and as a result of the recently announced federal election, two of our keynote government speakers have had to cancel because of government policy that does not allow them to speak during an election. Given the time remaining until the conference, it would be difficult to adequately replace them.
The AAC will determine the best alternative for dealing with the Annual General Meeting (AGM), which under the AAC Bylaws remains a requirement for 2008.
We hope you can appreciate our rationale for postponing the conference and we look forward to seeing you at our next conference, possibly in Ottawa next spring. Prior to this decision the AAC will undertake a survey of our membership to ensure that the timing of the conference will best suit our members and provide the maximum value for those participating.
